On June 27, the Department of Defense (DOD) submitted the final Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program rule to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA). This marks the final step in a years-long process, with OIRA’s review allowed to take up to 90 to 120 days. That means CMMC will be published in the Federal Register and finalized no later than September or October.

A 2023 study commissioned by CyberSheath revealed alarming statistics: Only 19% of respondents had implemented vulnerability management solutions, and a mere 25% had secure IT backup solutions in place. Even more concerning, 81% of respondents claimed compliance based solely on self-assessment, a risky proposition as we enter an era of potential audits and enforcement.
